Performance - subtleties and nuances

Music is an amazing, delicate world of human feelings, thoughts, experiences. The world that has been attracting millions of listeners to concert halls for centuries has inspired composers and performers.

The mystery of the music is that we enthusiastically heed the sounds written by the hand of the composer, but presented to us by the work of the performer’s hands. The magic of the performance reading of a musical work has been popular for more than one century.

The chain of people who want to learn to play the instrument, sing and compose has not been reduced. There are clubs, specialized music schools, music academies, art schools and clubs ... And they all teach one thing - to perform.

What is the magic of performance?

Performance is not a mechanical translation of musical icons (notes) into sounds and not reproduction, a copy of an already existing masterpiece. Music is a rich world with its own language. The language that carries the information is hidden:

  • in musical notation (pitch and rhythmic);
  • in dynamic nuances;
  • in melismatics;
  • in strokes;
  • in pedalization, etc.

Sometimes music is compared to science. Naturally, in order to perform a piece, one must master the concepts of the theory of music. However, the translation of musical notation into real music is a sacred, creative art that cannot be measured out or calculated.

The skill of the interpreter is manifested:

  • in the competent perception of the musical text written by the composer;
  • in the report of the music content to the listener.

Notes for a performing musician are cipher, information that allows the composer’s intent to penetrate and unravel, the style of the writer, the image of the music, the logic of the form structure, etc.

An outstanding teacher of the Soviet school L. Nikolaev, the author of the famous manual "The Piano Game", compared the musical notation with a geographical map. He said: "The musical notation is as far from the real sound as the map is from the landscape." Sound and recording are two planes that can be combined only by the imagination of the creator-performer.

Surprisingly, any interpretation can be created only once. Each new performance will be different from the previous one. Well, isn't that magic?

I am able to play, but I do not know how to perform!

It is natural that, as many brilliant performances, so many mediocre ones. Many performers have not been able to comprehend the magic of musical sounds. After studying at a music school, they closed the door to the music world forever.

Comprehend the subtleties and nuances of performance will help TALENT, KNOWLEDGE AND WORKING. In the triunity of these concepts, it is important not to overshadow the intent of the composer.

The interpretation of music is a delicate process where it’s not how YOU play Bach, but HOW you play Bach.

In the matter of learning, performing does not need to "open the bike." The scheme is simple:

  • study the history of musical art;
  • master the musical diploma;
  • improve your performance techniques and technique;
  • listen to music and attend concerts, compare interpretations of various artists and find what is close to you;
  • get into the style of composers, study biographies and art themes that inspire artists to create music;
  • working on the play, try to answer the question: “What motivated the composer when creating this or that masterpiece?”;
  • learn from others, attend master classes, seminars, lessons from various teachers;
  • try to write yourself;
  • cultivate yourself in everything!

Performance is an expressive disclosure of the content of the music, and how this content will be depends only on you! We wish you creative success!
