Pianist's homework: how to make work at home a holiday, not a punishment? From the personal experience of a piano teacher

Doing homework is an eternal stumbling block between teacher and student, child and parent. What do we not do, that would seat our beloved children for a musical instrument! Some parents promise sweet mountains and fun pastime for a computer toy, others put candy under the lid, some manage to lay money in the notes. Why not come up with!

I want to share my work in the field of musical piano pedagogy, because the success of a pianist’s home lesson directly affects the success and quality of all musical activities.

I wonder if the music teachers ever thought that their work was similar to the work of a doctor? When I write homework in the diary of my young student, I consider that this is not a task - this is a recipe. And on how the assignment is written (the recipe), this is how the quality of homework will be.

I catch myself thinking that it is necessary to arrange in the school an exhibition of "blunders" of teachers' assignments. Masterpieces enough! For example:

  • "Polyphonicize the texture of the play!";
  • "Learn at home many times without a break!";
  • "Determine the right fingering and learn!";
  • "Understand the intonation!" etc.

So I imagine the student sits down at the instrument, opens the notes and polyphonizes the texture with intonation and without interruption!

The world of children is so arranged that the main impetus and impetus to any action of the child becomes INTEREST and GAME! It is INTEREST that pushes the baby to the first step, to the first bruise and bruise, to the first knowledge, to the first delight. And the GAME is what's interesting for any child.

Here are some of my games. "pedagogical tricks"contributing to fueling and maintaining interest. Everything is first explained in the lesson, and only then set at home.

Game editor

Why give dry knowledge if you can push a student to search for them. All musicians are aware of the value of competent editing. (And there is no difference for an ordinary student, according to the “what” to play Bach - according to Mugellini, or Bartok).

Try to create your own version: sign the fingering, analyze and designate the form, put down intonation leagues and expression signs. Perform one part of the play in the lesson, set the other to the house. Use bright pencils, it is very interesting.

Learning a play

Three famous stages of G. Neuhaus for learning a play are known to all teachers. But children do not need to know. Calculate how many lessons you have been assigned to the next academic concert and together outline a work plan. If it is 1 quarter, then most often it is 8 weeks with 2 lessons totaling 16.

  • 5 lessons for parsing and joining two;
  • 5 lessons for fixing and memorizing by heart;
  • 6 lessons on art decoration.

If the student accurately plans the work plan, then he will see, “in which he is in the world,” and himself correct his homework. Lagged behind - caught up!

Synthesis of the arts and the game of the explorer

Music is a full-fledged art form, speaking its own language, but a language understandable for people of all countries. The student must play consciously. Let pictures of music be drawn at home, poems are forgotten, tales are written and the performance is listened to.. Ask a student to find three performances of his play on the Internet — listen and analyze. Let the musician, as a researcher find the facts of the biography of the composer, the story of the creation of the play.

Repeat 7 times.

Seven amazing number - seven days, seven notes. It has been proven that repeating seven times in a row gives an effect. I do not force children to count numbers. I lay a ballpoint pen on the DU key - this is the time, PE is the second repetition, and so with repetitions we move the knob up to the SI note. What is not a game? And at home is much more fun.

Class time

How much a student plays at home is not important to me, the main result. The easiest way to ask in the analysis of the play from the beginning to the end, but it will certainly turn into a failure. It is more effective to split everything into pieces: it is to play with the left hand, then with the right hand, here with two, there by heart the first part, the second, etc. For each task, take 10-15 minutes a day.

The goal of the class is not a game, but quality

Why "hollow from start to finish," if one place does not work. Ask the student a question: "What is easier to patch a hole, or sew a new dress?". Just demand from the student quality! Favorite excuse for all children "I did not succeed!", Should immediately find a counter question: "What did you do, what would happen?".

Ritual

Each lesson should have three components:

  1. technology development;
  2. consolidation of the past;
  3. learning a new one.

Teach the student to finger warm-up, as a kind of ritual. Before you play, you have to stretch your fingers! The first 5 minutes of training are warm-ups: scales, etudes, chords, exercises by S. Gannon and others.

Muse inspirer

Let your student have a muse-assistant (a toy, a beautiful statuette, a memorable thing). When you find fatigue, you can turn to her for help and energizing - it is an invention, of course, but it works fine. Especially when preparing for a concert performance.

Music is joy

This motto should accompany you and your student in everything. Music lessons at home is not a lesson and not a punishment, it is a hobby and a passion. No need to play for hours. Let the child play in the breaks between the lessons, attached not to work, but to his hobby. But it plays intently - without working televisions, computers and other distractions. Changing the attitude of the child to music is not as overwork, but as the fact that he chose himself - this is the surest incentive for any homework.
